Meet Recap: New Balance Nationals (Day 3)

We’re back at the TRACK of new balance for Day 3 of the New Balance Nationals. After two days of outstanding performances from our Rhode Island track & field athletes, we’re expecting more of the same on Saturday. Friday’s competition had our first All American with Lincoln’s Jillian Leahy placing second in the Championship Weight Throw with a heave of 54 feet, 1.75 inches.

Championship Events

  • Barrington finished 13th overall with a time of 32.85. Ethan Knight, Eli Terrell, Ryan Martin and Bobby Wind comprised the squad.
  • The Ocean State whent 2-3 in the boys’ weight with Hednricken’s Keith Daigneau takinb runner-up honor with a huge PR of 75-6.25. Toro grabbed the bronze with a heave of 74-8.25. The Hawks’ Michael LaFlamme was 12th with a distance of 63-9.75.
  • Hendricken’s Troy Silverstri smashed the state record in the 5,000-meter run, placing 16th overall with a time of 14:53.71. Silverstri eclipsed the 2014 mark of 15:04.15 by former Hawk Colin Tierney.
  • Bishop Hendricken’s foursome of Will Olsen, Ollie Ide, Jack Moretta, and Brayton Gazerro combined for a time of 18:31.15 in the 4xMile, good for 35th overall. La Salle was 46th in 18:50.12.

Risings Stars Events

  • West Warwick’s Lisa Raye advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash by tying the state record of 7.65 by former Hope standout Quashira McIntosh in her preliminary round. McIntosh clocked her time at the New Balance Nationals in 2014. Mount Hope’s Thea Jackson was 14th in her prelimins with a best of 7.96. Raye came back and made the record her own by finishing second in the finals with a sizzling 7.54. Both her efforts smashed the previous New England best for the distance of 7.74 by Elaina Tweedie of Westford Academy (MA).
  • Cranston West’s Ailani came just one placement short of advancing to the finals in the 200m, placing ninth overall with a PR of 24.60, just one thouandths of the second from the eighth and final qualifier. Raye was 14th in the field of 114 with a time of 24.70. The Wizards’ Xenia Raye was 60th at 25.64.
