Outdoor T&F Preview: Shot & Hammer Throw
Shot
Just like the indoor season, the competition is tight in this event. Among the top throwers, three have gone further than 50 feet, including recent indoor titlist Alex Morin of Bishop Hendricken and Cumberland’s Pat Conserve. Morin earned gold at the states with a best of 51 feet, 3.25 inches, while Conserve had a state-leading heave of 51-9 to place eighth at the New England Championships. Middletown’s Jason Hayes, who does not compete during the indoor season, is the top returnee from last year’s outdoor states where he was fourth with a PR of 50-5.
Other top contenders; Lincoln’s Christian Toro, Lincoln’s Tyler Durand, Hendricken’s Keith Daigneau (49-3.25), Classical’s Abdoulie Fadia (47-2), St. Raphael’s Moses Meus (47-0.5), Barrington’s Michael Fay (47-0).

Hammer
The state meet was dominated by seniors last year with seven athletes occupying the top eight. The Lions’ Toro is the lone returnee from that group with a PR of 218-2, an effort that placed him fourth overall. Toro is just a few weeks removed from a superlative winter campaign where he dominated the weight throw, capturing the state and New England title and finishing third at the Nike and New Balance national meets. North Kingstown’s Ethan Wordell, who came less than a foot from 200 feet, is No. 2 with a best of 199-1 from the Hendricken Invitational . There’s also Barrington’s Michael Fay (188-0) and Hendrcken’s Keith Daigneau (186-9) among others that should be battling for those top finishes. We’re expecting Daigneau to make a big leap after what transpired at the end of the indoor season, which he took the runner-up spot at New Balance Nationals.
Other contenders: Hendricken’s Michael LaFlamme (181-0), Lincoln’s Aidan Moreau (180-9)
