It was a great day at the Classical Classic!
The rain held off for Saturday’s meet, at least the predicted heavy stuff. The added bonus is the performance also proved to be top notch for the first state qualifier of the season.
Oh, yes, the State Meet should be another special one in a little more than a month.
Ocean State Running was on site for the six-plus hour meet. We thought it would be longer, so that’s another bonus. Check it out, we have more than 1,600 photos from the meet. Below is just a sampling.. We also had a chance to talk with some of our winners (and more). East Greenwich’s Nick Martin was a gun-to-wire winner in the boys’ 1,500m where he posted a state-leading 4:02.58
In one of the closest races of the day, Cranston West’s Ailani Sutherland, middle, edged West Warwick’s Lisa Raye, left, in the 100m dash. She broke the tape in a PR of 12.14. to Raye’s 12.18 effort. The Wizards’ Xenia Raye, right , was third at 12.58. Sutherland also anchored the Falcon’s winning 4x100m squad (49.54) and earned gold in the 200m (25.83). The Raye sisters didn’t go home empty-handed. Lisa was first in the 300m hurdles (46.36) and Xenia took the 400m (59.69).
