Memorable Moments, 2023: Nation-Leader For Wordell In Hammer

There’s PR and then there’s big-time PRs. The latter is what North Kingstown’s Ethan Wordell had at the Class A Championships on May 21. Competing in the hot sun at Coventry’s track & field facility, Wordell unleashed a 12-foot best of 231-1 to capture the hammer throw be nearly 33 feet! Wordell would continue that momentum the following weekend to win his specialty against top rival and eventual national champion, Lincoln’s Christian Toro, at the Hendricken Invitational where he went 228-8. At the State Meet, Wordell would earn second-team all-state honors with a runner-up finish to Toro. While the New Balance Nationals wouldn’t go quite as planned for the Skipper senior, his effort at the class meet would withstand the test of time, remaining atop the national rankings at season’s end.
