What better way to keep our content flowing here at Ocean State Running than to recognize the top moments of the outdoor track season of 2023. Over the next few weeks, OSR will highlight some of the finer performances by our track & field athletes. Congratulations to all our athletes. If you didn’t make our list, it doesn’t mean you were forgotten. Your hard work and dedication certainly made it another memorable season as a whole for us here at OSR.

Devan Kipyego once again had another season full of highlights. He didn’t win three or four events at the State Meet like he’s done at the last three championships (indoor and outdoor). That didn’t happen primarily because he only ran two, capturing the 800-meter run and anchoring the school’s winning 4x800m relay. He won a pair of high-level meets In Connecticut and New York and in late April with a victories in the 5,000m at the CT Distance Festival and the 2K Steeplechase at the New York Relays during the same weekend. The Iowa-bound runner was also a victor for 800m at the prestigious Loucks Games and was a winner in an immensely-talented mile field at the inaugural BSR Scholastic Mile on May 5. All those performances were noteworthy but we narrowed it down to two others this spring. It was certainly a toss up for what we are listing here as the most memorable. While he claimed the second national title of his high school career at New Balance by clocking a solid 4:04.78, we’re picking RunningLane. After doing most of the pace-setting in the late May race against a stellar group of some the nation’s best. Kipyego had to hold off a surging Adam Burlison (Grapevine, TX) down the stretch to claim the top prize with a winning time and season best of 4:03.65, a mere two tenths of a second ahead of his rival.
