We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season. To begin the new year for the HOKA Athletes of the Week, we’d like to introduce our first two female and male recipients of 2024. Congratulations to Woonsocket teammates Isabella Piette and Adam Beaudry, who we nominate for this week’s honor.
The Villa Novan weight throwers were triumphant at the annual U.S. Marine Corp’s Holiday Classic in New York City on Friday. It was an event that Rhode Island was simply dominant with a combined eight making the podium.
For the girls, Piette tossed an all-time best of 47 feet, 8.25 inches to earn her gold medal. She beat Coventry’s Mia Hoskins, the second-place finisher, by more than two feet with an effort that moved her to No. 6 nationally. The Villa Novan junior currently ranks fourth in the state.
Beaudry, our state’s No. 3 thrower, captured the boys’ competition with a heave of 61-4.75. The talented senior was just 10 inches further than teammate Shamrock Thoun.
