Providence and Boston were the destinations of choice this past weekend for our latest HOKA Athletes of the Week. Congratulations to this week’s honorees – St. Raphael’s Rory Sullivan and Pilgrim’s Brandon. Wolfenden.
Just a day before she was selected as the girls’ Gatorade Athlete of the Year for cross-country, the Saints’ Sullivan was at Harvard University for the GBTC Invitational. The Furman-bound senior took advantage of the strong competition at Sunday’s meet to post the fastest time in the state for the 3,000-meter run, finished second overall in the featured race with a PR of 10:00.29
As for the Patriots’ Wolfenden, he became our second shot-putter over the 50-foot mark at Saturday’s World Trophy Invitational. The Pilgrim junior moved to No. 2 in the state rankings with a then-best and school record of 51-11. In a league meet two days later, he improved on that mark by breaking his very, short-lived school mark with another PR of 52-10.75.
