Athletes Of The Week: Woonsocket’s Adelaide Caron & Chariho’s Elias Sposato

The Sgt. Brian St. Germain Invitational and the Glenn B. Loucks Games unloaded a plethora of fine performances by our track & field athletes this past weekend. A sampling of those athletes that proved victorious at Saturday’s St. Germain Invite were St. Raphael’s Rory Sullivan in the 1,500-meter run (4:35.99) and 3K (10:02.84), Barrington’s Ethan Knight in the 300m hurdles (38.67), and La Salle’s Garrett Giroux Pezzullo in the 400m (49.46). For the Loucks Games, La Salle’s Marshall Vernon finished fifth in a loaded 3,200m race with a near sub-9 (9:01.62) and Cumberland’s Kiley DeFusco became our state’s fourth sub-5 performer by taking ninth overall in the mile (4:57.94).

While these outstanding efforts (and plenty more) were certainly noteworthy by some of our state’s best, it was hard not ignore our latest female and male recipients as the HOKA Athletes Of The Week. Congratulation’s to Woonsocket’s Adelaide Caron and Chariho’s Elias Sposato.

Beginning with Caron, the Villa Novan junior improved on her nation-leader in the hammer throw at the St. Germain Invite. Caron unleashed her second 170-footer of the season with a winning toss of 174-0. Her previous best was a 173-9 from her first-place effort at the Knights of Columbus Relays.

When it comes to the 200m and 400m, the Chargers’ Elias Sposato ranks among the elite. At the Loucks Games, the defending state 400m champion improved on his current No. 1 in that event by breaking 49 seconds for the first time in his career with a blazing 48.89, a time that placed him seventh overall. The talented senior was also sixth in the 200m (22.42). For the half-lapper, he ranks No. 2 among his peers with a best of 22.16 from the Classical Classic.
