Let’s be serious! It’s already difficult enough trying to determine who should be our HOKA Athletes of the Week during the regular week. Now add the championship season, and this week’s class meets, to the picture and it increases the decision-making process to ginormous proportions.
What the heck? We’re going to go with it. While we know there are so many that could fit the bill, our final picks for this week’s honor are Coventry’s Zach Del Sasso and Cranston West’s Reece Vitale.
It’s hard to argue with a nation-leader. That’s what was tagged on Del Sasso’s final throw of the boys’ hammer at Saturday’s Class A Championships. The Knotty Oaker senior had a 13-foot PR with a winning toss of 223-5. His effort moved him from sixth in the country prior to the meet to the No. 1 spot.
As for Vitale, she was one of a plethora of multiple champions at their respective meets. She captured the 100m hurdles (16.82 seconds), 300m hurdles (48.87) and the triple jump (35-8) to lead the Falcons to their third straight Class A crown.
