Memorable Moments, 2024: Sub-48 For Sposato At State Meet

It was yet another eventful season for our RI track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Ocean State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature Chariho Regional’s Elias Sposato.

Over the years, we’ve had countless runners break 50 seconds for 400 meters and a handful more go under 49 seconds. But in the history of the state, only three have gone sub-48. Sposato was one of them. The Chargers’ senior had his best performance at the most opportune time where he claimed individual gold for the one-lapper at the RI State Meet. Sposato blazed to a PR of 47.85 seconds to beat runner-up Jacob Coates of Hendricken (48.96) by more than a second. If that wasn’t enough, the Chariho standout also took the top spot in the 200m. Like the 400m, it was an all-time best in that race, too. He broke the tape in a state-leading 21.44.
