Memorable Moments, 2024: Bediako Goes 40-Plus At States

It was yet another eventful season for our RI track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Ocean State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature Classical’s Gifty Bediako.

With training focused on peaking at just the right time as well as the added motivation of competing against the state’s finest, it’s not uncommon to see a plethora of PRs at the state championships. The Purple’s Bediako was one of those athletes at the June 1 meet, improving on her best in the shot by a margin that’s not often achieved in this event. The Classical junior followed up her indoor crown with a victory on the outdoor surface by tossing an all-time best of 42 feet, 2 inches. It was not only her first time over the 40-foot barrier but a PR by more than three feet!. Bediako continued the momentum seven days later at the New England’s in New Hampshire with a heave of 40-10.5.
