And so it begins.
The first official meet of the cross-country season will be held this weekend with the annual Injury Fund X-C Carnival at Deerfield Park. Yes, we’ll get a glimpse of some of the top teams and athletes to watch this fall. Will it be an accurate one? Probably not, as several will be using Saturday’s competition as more of a tempo run with the more intense stuff coming later in the season. Nonetheless, it should be a great day at the park with 10 races showcasing our state’s talent as well as our newest harriers with the two freshmen races on the schedule.
A few things to take note of…
According to Keith Lawton, the RIIL Cross-Country Director, there will be parking for the meet at Deerfield Park but another option is nearby Smithfield High. A short path to the park is located at the school. Also, once again Marathon Sports will be on site selling T-shirts and other cool merchandise at the meet.
Of course Ocean State Running will also be there, taking care of all the action. One of the things we always enjoy is interviewing the athletes and coaches during the course of a meet. Trust us, we’re always looking to get more than we do, but sometimes that can be difficult with the other stuff on our plate, such as videoing the races and taking photos.
