With the national championship meets all coming to a close the last two weekends, the indoor season has officially ended. It was another splendid winter campaign, one that featured its share of memorable moments and, of course, a plethora of PRs.
So now we’re onto the outdoor season. Over the next few months, our athletes will be will be out there doing their thing on the track, at the sand pit, on the infield and from inside the circle. Over the next few weeks, we’ll preview some of those top individuals that we expect will make some sort of impact this season.
Looking back…this past indoor season eight state records were set with West Warwick’s Lisa Raye responsible for five of them with new marks in the 55-meter dash (6.63 seconds), 60m (7.13), 300m (37.76), 55m hurdles (8.10) and the long jump (19 feet, 7.75 inches). La Salle broke two records in the boys’ 4x200m (1:28.45) and 4x400m (3:20.84) relays and Barrington’s Bobby Wind produced the state’s fastest time ever in the boys’ 55m hurdles (7.37). National titles were attained by Raye in the 60m at the New Balance Nationals, Toll Gate’s Vanessa Jones in the weight throw at NBN and Woonsocket’s Shamrock Thoun with a sweep of the weight at New Balance, the Nike Indoor Nationals and the adidas Track Nationals.
Will the outdoor season rival what we saw on the indoor surface? We’re guessing it will. Stay tuned.
