Outdoor T&F Preview: Boys’ 100m, 200m & 400m

For the next few months, it’s all about the outdoor track & field season as our RI athletes look to achieve PRs, individual and/or team titles this spring on the state level and, for some, even beyond the borders. Who are some of the top individuals we should keep an eye on this spring? Here we preview what we consider some of the best in the boys’ sprinting events.

100m

The top spots on the podium will look very different this year at the State Meet. Why? It’s simple. Our top four finishers from last year’s meet are all gone to graduation. No doubt, it will be an interesting season in this event. The top returnee is Mount St. Charles’s Ryder Kinzler, who was fifth last year at the State Meet with a PR of 11.05. Following Kinzler across the line were 6-7 finishers and La Salle teammates Amari Monteiro and La Salle’s Garrett Giroux-Pezzullo, who are all coming back. All three should be under 11 seconds after coming close to the mark last year. Hendricken’s Jeremy Seidi, who ran a best of 11.07 for the 100m last year as well as a state-leading 6.49 for the 55m this indoor season, has the potential to win it all with the perfect race.

200m

This is an event that could certainly generate some electricity at the state level. Among our returnees are our 3-5-6 finishers from the State Meet, the La Salle trio of Garrett Giroux-Pezzullo (21.64), Joshua Aceto (21.96) and Amari Monteiro (21.98). Notice a similarity with this trio? Yes, all three are from the same team and all three also broke 22 seconds at season-ending meet. We’re listing Giroux-Pezzullo as the favorite over his fellow teammates. He went sub-22 twice last spring and also won the 300m at the indoor states.

400m

Last spring was a strong season in this event with eight breaking 50 seconds and a few more on the cusp of doing the same. We expect it will be similar this time around. Our top three returnees in this race are the Rams’ Giroux-Pezzullo (49.46), Barrington’s Will Digiacomo (49.62) and La Salle’s Thaden Leomensah (49.91). Leomensah ran his all-time best this winter by finishing second at the Rising Stars Classic with a time of 49.70. There’s also La Salle’s Jackson Alves (50.0) and St. Raphael’s Devan Tavares (50.89), who also registered their all-time best on the indoor surface in 2025.
