In Philadelphia, Pa., is the 128th annual Penn Relays Carnival at historic Franklin Field. The three-day competition began Thursday with Hendricken running preliminary heats of the 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays and La Salle competing in its heat of the 4x400m. For the 4x100m, Hendricken was 62nd overall in 44.33 seconds. The Hawks were sixth in its heat of the 4x400m at 3:35.99. In the 4x400m, La Salle inched closer to the state record with the quartet of Joshua Aceto, Thaden Leomensah, Jackson Alves and Garrett Giroux-Pezzullo combining for a time of 3:18.32, an effort that placed them fourth in their heat and is just short of the RI mark of 3:18.09 by Central in 2016.
Friday will be a busy day for the Ocean State at the Penn Relays. West Warwick is scheduled to compete in the prelims of the girls’ 4x100m (11 a.m.) with a strong quartet that features Lisa and Xenia Raye along with teammates Jailynn Huffman and Tatianna Baldinelli. La Salle is also in the 4x100m (10 a.m.). At 5 p.m., Pilgrim’s Keaney Bayha will toe the line with some of the nation’s best in the Championship 3K.
The La Salle girls will finish things up on Saturday. The Rams are entered in the prelims of the 4x400m (9:41 a.m.).

St. Raphael Academy and La Salle will have a few of their top athletes competing at the third annual BSR Mid-Distance Classic on Friday night at St. John’s Prep. The meet begins at 4, and will be live streamed by Bay State Running.
The Saints’ Devan Tavares and Daniel Akan-Disu are among three runners that have seeds under 52 seconds in the boys’ 400m. In the girls’ 200m, SRA freshman Francesca Justin is the two seed with a best of 25.72. The Saints’ Jayla Grimes (58.5) is the top seed in the 400m.
The girls’ mile features several Rhode Islanders among the top seeds. La Salle sophomore Alyssa Parenteau is at No. 1 with a seed time of 5:07.0, which is based on her 4:49.73 best for 1,500m during the indoor season. St. Raphael tenth-grader MacKenzie Lickert is the No. 2 seed with a time of 5:13.06. La Salle’s Caroline Tarlato is at No. 3 with a seed of 5:15.

On Friday is the 42nd annual O’Grady Relays at Danbury High. in CT. The race is held in honor of the late Dan O’Grady. The legendary coach from Danbury began his career at La Salle where he started the cross-country and track programs and coached both teams from 1943-1950.
Just a day after competing at Penn in the 4x400m, Giroux-Pezzullo, Leomensah, Alves and Aceto will be back at it, only this time they’ll test their mettle in the 4x200m (9:05 p.m.). The Rams will also have a foursome in the 4x100m (6 p.m.) with Aceto, Alves, Giroux-Pezzullo and Jalen Moseley.
