It was yet another eventful season for our RI track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Ocean State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature Mount Hope’s Thea Jackson.
A few weeks prior to the State Meet, Jackson’s season appeared to be over when she sprained her ankle and fractured her fibula during a mishap at practice at the high jump. But in a surprising turn of luck, the Huskies’ junior was medically cleared just days before the season’s biggest meet of the year. How did Jackson respond? The same way she’s always does when facing the state’s best. She returned home wearing two gold medals. With PR and state-leading performances, Jackson captured the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches and the long jump with a distance of 19-1. For good measure, she also placed third in the 100-meter dash, clocking 12.35 seconds in the final after running 12.16 in the prelims—her second-fastest time of the season.
