Memorable Moments, Spring 2025: Goulding Captures Shot For Title-Winning Clippers

It was yet another eventful season for our RI track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Ocean State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature Cumberland’s Payton Goulding.

Everything came together perfectly this spring for the Lady Clippers, who won the school’s first state title since 1989. The spark that ignited their championship run came a day before the official title win—during a meet that was extended to two days due to weather delays.

On Day 1 of the championship meet on June 14, Goulding captured her first individual title, scoring 10 big points in the shot with an all-time best of 41 feet, 7.75 inches. The Cumberland senior would contribute eight more points the next day, taking the silver in the discus with another PR of 128-1.
