North Smithfield experienced a strong season last year where it finished second at the Class C Championships and seventh at the State Meet. The low stick is junior Julie Dowling, who captured the class title and was 14th at the states. She leads a squad that lost just two to graduating.
Returning along with Dowling are senior Keira Harnois, junior Clover Slaughter, senior Jazel Hughes and junior Brielle Baillargeon. Based on what she did last year on the trails and during the the track season, Dowling is a runner capable of cracking the top 10 with the possibility of earning first=team, all-state by placing seventh or better. Harnois and Slaughter both went under 22 minutes at the states and could get in the low 21-minute range, maybe faster this season. That’s a solid 1-2-3 The key for the Northmen is how the back end responds.
