Boys’ Team Preview: No. 7, St. Raphael Academy

Saint Raphael Academy lost its top three runners from last year’s squad, which finished ninth overall at the State Meet.

So why do we think the Saints could be on the bubble for a top-six finish this fall? There are a few reasons.

First, SRA added a major piece in senior Arthur Ferris, a transfer from Burrillville and a legitimate top-seven contender statewide. Ferris placed 12th at last year’s State Meet where he was timed in 16 minutes, 24.78 for the 5K course at Ponaganset. He carried that momentum into track season, capping his junior year by taking fourth in the 1,500m and fifth in the 3,000m at the outdoor states.

The Saints also return four athletes—spanning last year’s varsity, JV, and freshman squads—who broke 19 minutes for 5K. That includes a pair of sub-18 runners in senior Joseph McFarland (17:54.89) and junior Cameron McVeigh (17:58.17). Elias Wilson (18:24.10) and Michael Duschang (18:50.17) add valuable depth to a team that has the talent to climb the rankings quickly.
