Girls’ XC Team Preview: No. 6, Moses Brown

Moses Brown lost three seniors from last year’s team that placed fifth at the State Meet, but the believe the Quakers still have enough firepower to remain among our top six this fall.

Moses Brown returns a mostly young squad of four from 2024, one with the potential to be competitive with the state’s best. The returning quartet includes junior Edie Lane, senior Skyler Maxwell, junior Lola Baill, and sophomore Sadie Dougherty.

Lane placed 35th overall at last year’s State Meet with a time of 20:16.42. Maxwell was 47th in 21:00.39, followed by Baill (51st, 21:17.46) and Dougherty (57th, 21:38.75)—all finishing under the 22-minute mark. The small gap between these harriers could be a key factor in how the team performs this fall.

While primarily a middle-distance runner, we have a hunch Maxwell could have a breakout year on the trails. She’s coming off a very successful track season, highlighted by PRs of 1:36.21 in the 600m, 56.47 in the 400m, and 2:11.70 in the 800m. She’s a gritty competitor—something we witnessed multiple times last year—and we expect her to bring that same tenacity to the up-and-down terrain this season.

Beyond the top four, the Quakers will be looking for consistency from their fifth runner. Based on 2024, that appears to be sophomore Nathalie Kunathai, who had a best of 24:41.44. That role could change with the arrival of a new crop of underclassmen.

Over the last four years, Moses Brown has steadily produced a quality program. The Quakers have averaged more than nine wins a season in the Metropolitan Division during that span and are the two-time defending Class C titlists. We expect the incoming class —and perhaps a few surprises—to help fill those gaps and keep Moses Brown competitive once again.
