Girls’ XC Team Preview: No. 4, East Greenwich

n our mind, East Greenwich is one of those teams that could surprise a few people and potentially move up from the No. 4 ranking. Here’s why: the Avengers return six varsity runners from last year’s squad that finished fourth overall at the State Meet.

All six were underclassmen.

With another year of maturity and training, East Greenwich could make a serious impact on the trails if everything comes together. The Avengers’ top returnee is sophomore Ali Walsh. As a freshman last fall, Walsh placed 28th at the State Meet in 19:57.59. She also broke 20 minutes at the Skee Carter/Bronco Invitational with a PR of 19:47.97 for sixth overall, and she finished runner-up at the Freshmen State Meet, clocking 16:01.72 for 2.5 miles.

At varsity states last year, EG’s gap from No. 1 to No. 5 was just 1:11 — the third-best among all returning squads. That kind of tight pack, which so often wins meets, could be there again this fall. Not far behind Walsh are junior Olive Willis (19:54.22) and sophomore Lindsey Han (20:01.79). The depth is strong for EG with runners like junior Kayla Siedliski, senior Brea Wood, and senior Lily Azzoli, all in the low-to-high 21-minute range. Junior Isabella Gomez Rodriguez adds even more depth after running 22:33.47 at the JV States.
