Perhaps the Lady Rams took our recent New Balance Power Rankings personally.
Just days after unveiling our latest list — which moved La Salle Academy to No. 2 from its previous No. 1 spot — the Rams responded with a clinic in pack running at Saturday’s Manhattan University Invitational in New York.
With just a 25-second gap between its top five scorers, La Salle dominated the Varsity C race, scoring a low 38 points — well ahead of runner-up Tatnall (DE), which finished with 123.
Alyssa Parenteau led the charge, placing fourth overall in 15 minutes, 29.7 seconds for the 2.5-mile course at historic Van Cortlandt Park. The Rams’ remaining scorers all broke 16 minutes: Sabrina Ghamrawt (sixth, 15:34.9), Olivia Wahlberg (10th, 15:45.5), Stella Pelago (11th, 15:52.3), and Caroline Terlato (12th, 15:54.7). Further proving the team’s depth, Satya Mohan crossed 14th in 16:03.5, while Gemma Kent rounded out the top seven at 47th in 17:09.1.
In the featured Eastern States Championship, Bishop Hendricken continued its string of impressive performances this fall, placing second overall behind nationally ranked Christian Brothers Academy (NJ). The Hawks tallied 125 points to CBA’s winning total of 78.
Junior Colby Flynn led the way for Hendricken — and all Rhode Islanders — with a massive PR of 12:25.8, good for seventh place. His previous best on Van Cortlandt’s demanding layout was 13:10.95. Flynn finished roughly 30 meters ahead of La Salle’s Marshall Vernon, who was ninth in 12:33.3. Hendricken’s depth carried the team, with David Hayes (15th, 12:38.2), Shepherd Butler (20th, 12:49.4), Fred Russell (32nd, 13:00.4), and Brayden Seraichyk (53rd, 13:24.8) separated by just 47 seconds.
In the girls’ Eastern States Championship, Chariho freshman Meriden Alge continued her breakout season, placing 30th overall and third among ninth-graders in 15:53.1.
St. Raphael’s Arthur Ferris added an exclamation point to the Ocean State’s success, winning the Varsity B race in a swift 12:48.5 — a time that would have placed him 20th in the elite Eastern States field.
