East Bay Challenge, Skee Carter/Bronco Invite On Thursday

One final tune-up. Two more chances to sharpen up before next weekend’s class championships.

That’s what’s on tap for about half of the state’s teams, with the East Bay Challenge and the Skee Carter/Bronco Invitational drawing a combined 27 schools to their respective venues.

The East Bay Challenge, held at Glen Park in Portsmouth, features eight schools. Among the entries is Portsmouth’s Sean Gray, who will be competing in his first race since his impressive victory at the Shores Coaches Invitational where he defeated an elite field of regional talent and top state rivals, Colby Flynn of Bishop Hendricken and La Salle’s Marshall Vernon. Leading the girls’ field is multiple all-stater Jessical Deal of Mount Hope. The meet kicks off at 4:45 p.m., with the girls’ race. The boys answer the gun at 5:15.

The Skee Carter/Bronco Invitational, which takes place at Burriville Middle School, features 19 schools. Four teams listed among our New Balance Power Rankings will be making the trip – Cranston West, North Smithfield, Moses Brown and East Greenwich. The varsity boys begin the action at 4 p.m. The girls’ race starts at 4:30 p.m. A combined junior varsity race concludes the meet with the gun fired at 5 p.m.
