Week 4 of our Power Rankings saw most of the movement occur right at the top. Just a week after relinquishing their No. 1 spot to Cumberland, La Salle Academy delivered a statement performance at the Manhattan College Invitational to reclaim the top position.
At historic Van Cortlandt Park in New York, the Rams once again showed that strength comes in numbers, posting a total team effort to capture the Varsity C race and record the third-best overall performance among all competing squads at the high-level regional meet.
Could we see the top spots flip-flop again in the coming weeks? It just might happen. Cumberland was idle this past weekend, and both squads will have the upcoming week off as they prepare for their head-to-head clash at the Class Championships on Oct. 24. The winner there will, of course, claim the inside track to the top spot heading into the State Meet a week later.
North Kingstown holds steady at No. 3 after an encouraging fifth-place finish among 24 schools in the Large School race at the Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational. The Skippers’ top five clocked times ranging from 18:20 to 20:38 on the fast five-kilometer layout at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds — a course rumored to be 30–40 seconds quicker than Ponaganset. Even if that’s true, the showing was strong and well-timed with the class meet approaching.
Meanwhile, Cranston West made a big statement of its own, finishing more than 100 points ahead of Barrington at Twilight. That effort bumps the Falcons up to No. 4, while the Eagles slide down a spot to No. 5.
