Judging by what we’ve seen so far this season, things are going to get very interesting at the State Meet on Nov. 1. We’ve mentioned it countless times over the last few weeks that Bishop Hendricken appears to be the clear-cut favorite to win its fourth straight title.
Everything else? Take your pick.
While it may not answer all our questions, this Saturday could answer a few when teams from throughout the state collide at Ponaganset for the RIIL Class Championship. Six meets, 12 individual and team champions determined during six-plus hours of competition at the Chieftains’ covered-bridge trail.
During the week, we’ll preview all six boys’ and girls’ races. Among our inidviduals, we’ll have three returning titlist lining up at the starting line this weekend – La Salle Academy’s Marshall Vernon in Class A, Portsmouth’s Sean Gray in Class B and North Smithfield’s Julie Dowling in Class C.
Below is the schedule for this weekend’s meet, which also includes the Junior Varsity State Meet. We’ll begin our previews based on their order at the class class championships.
