La Salle Edges Tight Field To Win Freshmen Girls’ State Title

It was a close one.

Just 19 points separated the top four teams at Monday’s Freshmen Girls’ State Meet at the PCTA Field House.

La Salle Academy emerged victorious, totaling 69 points to claim the championship plaque—10 more than runner-up Classical. Barrington finished third with 58.5 points, while North Kingstown placed fourth with 50.

The star of the day for the Rams was Torri Charello-Ingegneri. The gifted ninth-grader swept the sprinting events, blazing to personal bests of 7.52 seconds in the 55-meter dash and 42.61 in the 300m. Those performances moved her to No. 5 in the state rankings in the 300m and a tie for No. 11 in the 55m. Charello-Ingegneri also ran a leg on La Salle’s first-place 4×400-meter relay, which clocked 4:34.13, nearly two seconds ahead of Barrington (4:36.01).

The 55m dash also saw Classical’s Jola Fox (second, 7.56) and Cranston East’s Aubre Perry-Spann (third, 7.57) dip under 7.6.

Mount Hope’s Jourdan Cicchinelli was another standout, collecting 36 points in the meet. She captured the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and the long jump (17-1.5),and added runner-up finishes in the 300 meters (PR, 43.86) and the shot (PR, 29-3). Cicchinelli currently ranks No. 4 in the state in the long jump with a best of 17-8.75.

Chariho’s Meridan Alge was also a double winner. She edged Barrington’s Carly Gill in the 1,500 meters, 4:56.71 to 4:57.06, and added a victory in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:16.76.

Pilgrim’s Aubrey Jarvis won a close race in the 600m where she was timed in 1:46.00. Close behind were La Salle’s Emily Flynn (second, 1:47.64) and Barrington’s Charlotte Ford (third, 1:47.89).
