Depth Prevails As Hawks Cruise To Freshmen Boys’ State Crown

As is often the case with Bishop Hendricken, depth proved to be the difference at Wednesday’s Freshman State Championships.

The Hawks scored in 10 of the meet’s 15 events and captured three victories, rolling to a 122–82 win over runner-up La Salle at the PCTA Field House. Barrington finished third with 60 points, while Classical secured fourth with 50.

Luke Tremble raced to a PR of 4:30.71 to win the 1,500-meter run for the Hawks. Teammate Benjamin Lopes leaped 5 feet, 2 inches to take the high jump. Lopes also ran a leg on the school’s winning 4x200m squad. The quartet of Lopes, James Farley, Shamus McConnell, and AJ Kar combined for a time of 1:40.42.

East Providence’s Cormac Moran was a convincing winner in the 600m. Moran was nearly four seconds ahead of his closest pursuer with a best of 1:32.54. The Townies’ Jalen Jackson was untouchable in the 55m hurdles where he broke the tape in 8.87.

Classical’s Diego Benjamin was a double winner. Benjamin blazed to a PR of 37.83 to take the 300m in a tight race with Chariho’s Anderson Chapman, who finished at 37.87. Benjamin nearly broke the 20-foot barrier in the long jump, soaring to a distance of 19-11.

In the shot, Barrington’s Anthony Eaton thwarted off as flurry of Hendricken throwers with a toss of 39-11.5. Finishing 2-3-4 behind Eaton were Wilfredo Diaz (second, 38-1), Ryan Morin (third, 36-4.75) and Gabriel Siedi (fourth, 35-5.25)
