It’s a wondrous site this time of year at Goddard Memorial State Park. Get ready for a sea of multi-colored singlets and racing shoes on the scenic Warwick park for the 16th annual Ocean State X-C Invitational. This year’s meet, which once again is sponsored by Marathon Sports and HOKA, will be held Friday (middle school races) and Saturday (high school races).
With registration closed, the final tallies have been added. Nearly 4,500 will participate in the two-day meet with 1,125 ready to answer the gun in the six middle school races and 3,323 expected to toe the line in the 14 high school races. The Norm Monks 5K Trail Race has attracted 54 competitors for the open event and a total of 294 HS runners are scheduled to compete in the featured Championship boys’ and girls’ races. Coming soon, we’ll be posting previews of those Championship races, slated for 12:15 (boys) and 12:45 (girls) on Saturday afternoon.
