HOKA Athletes Of The Week: South Kingstown’s Sierra Thompson & Moses Brown’s Eli Ziegler

In relation to our HOKA Athletes of the Week, last week was different for our track & field athletes. While the girls had the divisional championships on Saturday, the boy had to wait until Monday and Tuesday to compete. AS is often customary, there were no invitational or championship meets we could use for this week’s honor.

So for this week’s male recipient, we’re going to pick what we consider the top performance from the final league meet of the season last week. Our female choice proved to be more difficult. For this, we chose someone from the divisional championships where a number of athletes shined. Congratulations to South Kingstown’s Sierra Thompson and Moses Brown’s Elie Ziegler.

Thompson was one of several multiple winners that competed at this past Saturday’s meets. Fresh off her state record in the pentathlon a week earlier at the Bethel (CT) Invitational, the Rebels’ senior once again demonstrated her versatility and talent at the Headley Division Championships by taking the 55m hurdles (8.44), high jump (5 feet, 3 inches) and running a leg on the winning 4x400m relay (4:16.58). She also was third in the 55m dash ( 7.44).

In his final league meet in the Metropolitan Division, the Quakers’ Ziegler won the 1,500m in the third fastest time in the state of 4:07.31. It was a two-second PR for Ziegler. His previous best was 4:09.67 from his runner-up finish at the RITCA Invitational at the beginning of the season.
