As to be expected, the first state qualifier of the outdoor season had its share of outstanding performances. It wasn’t easy when it came down to choosing the best female and male recipients for our HOKA Athletes of the Week based on how they performed at this past Saturday’s Classical Classic. After careful consideration, we’d like to congratulate La Salle Academy’s Alexis Caggiano and Barrington’s Bobby Wind for this week’s honor.
The Rams’ Caggiano was a double-winner, capturing the 400-meter dash and the 200m at Conley Stadium. In the 400m, the determined senior clocked a PR of 58.42 seconds. The La Salle University-bound runner came back and breezed to the 200m crown where she was timed in a best of 25.29.
The Eagles’ Wind won a competitive race in the 110m hurdles, a field that included defending state champion and teammate Ethan Knight. The star hurdler led three under 15 seconds with a best of 14.22, a time that ranks No. 4 all-time in the history of the state. Following Wind was Knight (second, 14.48) and Portsmouth’s Landon Rodrigues (third, 14.96). A few hours later, the Barrington standout secured the bronze in the 300m hurdles where he crossed the line in a PR of 41.37.
