Lady Clippers Among Best At Manchester Invitational

Defending girls’ state titlist Cumberland had a prime showing at Saturday’s Manchester Invitational in New Hampshire. In a meet that always attracts some of the top schools throughout New England, the Clippers finished fourth overall in the Large School race with 174 points. Winning the team crown with 59 points was Oyster River, currently the No. 1 ranked squad in New Hampshire. Champlain Valley (VT) and Hanover (NH),. two other squads among the best in their respective states, were second and third, respectively.

Held on a very-challenging 5K course at Derryfield Park, the Blue & White averaged a time of 20 minutes, 32 seconds by its scoring runners. Ninth-grader Ceceila Ludwig was the top finisher for the Clippers and the fourth freshmen to cross the line with a time of 20:09.60, good for 23rrd overall. Less than a minute separated the Clippers’ top five with junior Charli McCue (30th, 20:21.0), senior Rose Tuomisto (34th, 20:28.10). senior Kiley DeFusco (39th, 20:34.30) and sophomore Anna Bianchi (53rd, 21:06.40) occupy the remining four spots. The race had 222 finishers.

Cumberland also competed in the boys’ race, and finished 12th overall among the 36 teams. Junior Jake Schonhoff led the Clippers by taking 46th overall in 17:28.50. Senior Shawn Murray was 39th at 17:39.10. The race attracted 249 runners.
