Boys’ XC Team Preview: No. 5, East Greenwich

East Greenwich lost its top three runners from last year, including No. 3 David Hayes, who transferred to Bishop Hendricken. Despite the setback, the Avengers return a strong core of varsity runners and have plenty of talent coming up from their JV and freshman squads—enough to keep them in the mix among the state’s elite this fall.

Among its returnees are four runners who have broken 18 minutes for the 5K distance. Junior Andrew Parisi leads the way for EG. He was 23rd at last year’s states where he was timed in a best of 16:44.87. Also coming back for the Avengers – the Class B titlist and a fourth-place finisher at the State Meet – are senior James Marcaccio (41st, 17:17.58) and sophomore Jeremiah Moon (65th, 17:58.50). There’s also junior Jeremy Dru (17:41.50), senior William Norris (18:22.36) and junior Thomas Durfey (18:42.80), who were seventh, 19th and 27th, respectively, at the JV states. This is a team that can legitimately have at least five or six, possibly more, under 18 minutes. That’s a solid crew that could certainly make a difference this fall.
