Girls’ XC Team Preview: No. 5, Barrington

Barrington lost just two seniors from a squad that placed sixth at last year’s State Meet. With several key underclassmen returning (and more), the Eagles are poised to climb the standings — likely at least one spot, and possibly higher.

Junior Evelyn Lefort leads this crew. As a tenth-grader in 2024, Lefort finished 20th at the states and was seventh at the Class A Championships, both times clocking 19:30 on Ponaganset’s five-kilometer course.

Back in the mix from last year’s varsity squad are sophomore Scarlett Wasinowicz, senior Mia He, senior Maeve Kelly, and junior Estelle Mentzer, who registered times between 21:03.17 to 22:59.88. The Eagles have some solid depth with junior Ginevra Girardello, senior Leyla Bac, junior Sophia Halloran and junior Claire Collins, who competed at the JV states, also returning. Girardello finished fourth at the JV meet with a best of 22:31.69. The remaining trio went sub-24. This is a team that should be able to pack together nicely this fall. Last year’s squad had a gap of 2:12 between its one and five runners. That gap could be similar this time around, too.
