Questions. So many questions will be answered on Saturday when runners from across the state make their way to Ponaganset’s covered-bridge trail — the site of the RIIL Class Cross-Country Championships.
Could we see a repeat of last year’s Class C girls’ thriller, where North Smithfield’s Julia Dowling edged St. Raphael Academy’s Mackenzie Lickert by just five hundredth of a second? How about Class A, where La Salle’s Marshall Vernon and Hendricken’s Colby Flynn are expected to go stride for stride on the challenging five-kilometer course?
In Class B, who takes it when East Greenwich and Barrington clash in a boys’ match-up that could be decided by single digits? And on the girls’ side in Class A — will it be La Salle, Cumberland, or perhaps North Kingstown rising to the top?
With so much talent at the line, how many runners will break 16 minutes for boys and 20 minutes for girls?
The final competition before next weekend’s State Meet — the granddaddy of them all — always brings a charge of excitement to the Chieftains’ home course. Ocean State Running will be there in full force, covering every stride with photos, interviews, stories, and more.
