This weekend’s New England Championships weren’t the only place where a few of our athletes were crowned as regional winners.

just a few days prior to Saturday’s meet, some of the regions’s top weight-throwers held their New England’s inside the PCTA field house.

Just as it did at the State Meet less than two weeks earlier, it was Lincoln High that came out on top in the boys’ and girls’ competition at Wednesday night’s meet with recent RI champions, Christian Toro and Jillian Leahy, capturing the respective titles in their final tune-up before looking for prosperity at the nationals this upcoming weekend.

Toro unleashed a throw of 73 feet, 5 inches in a close victory over Keith Daigneau of Bishop Hendricken. Daigneau and fellow Hawk teammate Michael La Flamme finished 2-3 with efforts of 69-7.5 and 66-10. Rounding out the top five was Juanita Sanchez’s Enrique Edjang (fourth, 66-7.5) and Massachusetts’ Kaden Cassidy of Lexington (61-6).

Continuing her late-season consistency, Leahy earned gold with a distance of 52-5.75. Sophomore Isabella Piette, another athlete that has been coming on strong lately, was second at 45-2.75. Narrgansett’s Kylee Bennett was third with a toss of 45-0. She was followed by Cumberland’s Morgan Champi (fourth, 44-11.25) and Classical’s Gifty Beiiako (41-9).
