Mackenzie Lickert has some lofty goals for the upcoming indoor season.
And why wouldn’t she?
The Saint Raphael junior is coming off a stellar cross-country campaign, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the State Meet. She capped her fall season in style on Saturday with a PR performance at the Brooks Northeast Championships.
The SRA standout earned a spot on the All-Region Team by placing 29th overall in the Championship race, clocking an 18:37.30 for 5K over the challenging terrain of Franklin Park.
“I knew there were a bunch of great girls in this race and I just had to work with them and see what I could do,” she said. “My goal was All-Region, and I did that. I am very happy.”
Lickert’s showing against the region’s elite was no surprise. The Saints’ talented runner has been consistent all season, a result she credits to her dedication during the off-season.
“I was very happy with my season. I trained so hard this summer, leveled off my training, did a lot of cross-training, added on my mileage,” she said. “I knew I was able to do big things this season.”
Big things she’s aiming to achieve this winter, too. Last indoor season, Lickert placed third at the state meet with a PR of 10:15.91 in the 3K—a finish she matched at the outdoor championships.
“For the indoor season, I really want to PR in the 3K. I want to get sub-10 (minutes) by the end of the season. That’s a really big goal for me,” she said. “I want to lower my mile PR and place as high as I can at the states. We’ll see what we can do.”
