While it was the fifth straight crown for the Moses Brown girls, it was a history-making day for their counterparts at the Class C Championships.
The Quaker boys completed the sweep on Saturday by winning their first team title in the school’s history with a 127-113.50 decision over second-place Rogers. On the girls’ side, Moses Brown won a close one, just getting by the Prout School. 108-105.5.
The Quakers’ Eli Ziegler was a double-winner with victories in the 800-meter run and the 1,500m. The MB senior and teammate Owen Buroker went 1-2 in the 800m with times of 159.56 and 2:01.02, respectively. A few hours prior to that race, Ziegler proved no match for the competition by capturing the 1,500m in an outdoor best of 4:05.30. Mount St. Charles’ Ethan Fadden was distant second in 4:16.20. Buroker picked up six points for the Quaker by taking third overall at 4:21.80.
Gabe Lane collected 26 points for the victors. The Quaker senior won the pole vault by soaring to a height of 11 feet. He was also fourth in the long jump (18-10) and third in both the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and javelin (147-3).
Moses Brown’s Alex Zinit was first in the 20’0m (23.07) and fourth in the 100m (11.60).
Less than six feet determined the winner in an impressive hammer throw competition. Exeter-West Greenwich’s Owen Spira claimed the gold with a heave of 216-5. Finishing second was Owen Degnan of Narragansett with a distance of 210-4.
Rogers’ junior Kaden Thomas struck it rich twice in his specialties. He was dominate in the shot with a toss of 50-0.5, nearly six feet further than his closest rival and teammate Nicolas Kennedy (44-5). Thomas also came out on top in the discus (140-2).
North Smithfield’s Aidan Bienvenue swept the hurdles, posting times of 15.33 in the 110m IH and 41.15 in the 300m IH. Teammate Nick Lamoureux won the 400m (51.21), finished second in the high jump (6-0) and was fourth in the triple jump (38-7.5) for the Northmen, who were third overall with 111.50 points.

The Quaker girls scored in 12 events with victories from Skyler Maxwell in the 200m (27.0). Jay Champlin in the 3,000m (10:50.90) and their 4x800m (10:16.87) and 4x400m (4:14.50) squads. In addition to their wins, Maxwell was also fourth in the 400m (1:03.63) and ran a leg on the 4×4. Champlin also collected a fourth in the 1,500m with a season best of 5:04.60.
The 800m proved no contest with St. Raphael’s Rory Sullivan winning by more than four seconds with a SB of 2:16.01. The Saints also had a victory from Jayla Grimes in the 400m where she edged Exeter/West Greenwich’s Ella Johnson by .39 of a second with her time of 1:01.55.
E/WG sophomore Nini Olawuyi broke the tape in the 100m HH at 16.45. She also placed first in the long jump (17-11.5) and triple jump (33-8.5).
The Prout School’s Julia Smith, the top seed in the hammer and discus, did not disappoint at Saturday’s meet, taking both those events with distances of 150-10 and 110-3, respectively.
Mount St. Charles’ Emmy Belvin was first in the 1,500m (4:52.10) and third in the 800m (2:21.92).
