It’s Not Over Yet! Dismal Weather Forces Postponement Of Remainder Of State Meet

After about three hours of threatening weather that included bouts of lightning and eventual downpours, officials pulled the plug near the midway point of Saturday’ RIIL State Outdoor Track & Field Champions. Action will resume on Sunday with eight of the 19 events complete.

Amon them, a new nation-leader for Coventry’s Mia Hoskins in the girls’ hammer. The Knotty Oakers’ senior and impressive last few weeks from behind the cage with a PR of 188-feet even. Hoskins’ winning toss was a PR by nearly eight feet. Her previous best was 180-7 from the Class B Championships.

North Kingstown, a contender for the girls’ title, won the 4x800m relay with a state-leading and school record of 9 minutes, 18.40 seconds. Barrington, which is looking to captures its second straight boys’ crown, also ran a state No. 1 and new school mark with its 7:57.42. In the 4x100m, top-seeds La Salle (42.09) and West Warwick (47.77), claimed the respective titles in the boys’ and girls’ races.
