New Balance Nationals, Day 3: State Titlist Shaw Earns All American

During a dominating year in the pole vault, Amber Shaw has achieved a multitude of accolades, including an indoor and outdoor state title and a New England crown last week.

Now she’s an All American.

The Ponaganset senior earned her latest honor on Saturday afternoon, Day 3 of the New Balance Nationals. Shaw secured fifth overall with a PR of 12 feet, 9.5 inches.

Shaw was one of two Rhode Islanders to earn All-American honors during Saturday’s competition. Barrington’s Joe Adams also secured the distinction, placing sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 201-10.

In the 4×100-meter relay. La Salle advanced to the finals on Sunday, placing eight overall for the last qualifying spot. The quartet of Casey Ashe, Garrett Giroux-Pezzullo, Antonio Bearden and Jalen Mosesley combined for a time of 41.66. It was the fourth time this season that the Rams have gone under 42 seconds.

In the opening round of the 110m hurdles, Moseley clocked a PR of 14.01 to advance to the semifinals. Though he came up short in advancing to the finals in that heat, the Rams junior nearly matched his best with a time of 14.02.

Portsmouth’s Sean Gray ran a solid 4:13.67 in the mile. The Patriots’ senior, who was fifth in the 3K on Friday, ran his final 800m in under 2:05.

Prout’s Callie Smith was third in the Freshmen Javelin with a toss of 116-0.
