The competitive portion of the outdoor track & field season officially got its start this past weekend t Conley Stadium with the Knights of Columbus 4xMile Relays. After a brief hiatus, the 55th annual event also brings back our HOKA Athlete of the Week for the final season of the 2022-23 school year, a weekly features that recognizes the top male and female athletes.
For this week’s honor, we’d like to congratulate Lincoln’s Christian Toro, who we nominate as the HOKA Male Athlete of the Week. Despite the slippery and wet conditions provided by a steady rainfall for most of Saturday’s meet, Toro was still able to manufacture a nation-leader in the hammer throw where he unleashed a winning toss of 226 feet, 5 inches. The Duke University-bound senior is coming off an indoor season where he was the state and New England champion in the weight throw and also a two-time All American with top finishes at the New Balance Nationals and Nike Indoor Nationals. His latest performance certainly should provide a confidence-booster for more success during the outdoor campaign. His effort at the K of C Relays was a PR by eight feet and beat his nearest rival by nearly 20 feet!
