HOKA Athletes Of The Week: Classical’s Susan Adekunie & Rogers’ Kaden Thomas

For the first statewide meet of the season, the RITCA Invitational produced an abundance of fine performances. As an added bonus, it also gave a number of athletes some early qualifiers for the State Meet in February.

For this week’s HOKA Athletes of the Week, we’re going to give our throwers so love from that meet. And rightly so. Congratulations to Classical’s Susan Adekunie and Rogers’ Kaden Thomas, our female and male recipients of this week’s honor.

The Purple’s Adekunie nearly hit the 50-foot mark with her victory in the weight throw at this past weekend’s meet. The Classical senior had a winning toss of 49 -7.25, a mere six inches ahead of Woonsocket’s Adelaide Caron. Adekunie’s effort was a best by nearly five feet and moves her to No. 2 in the national rankings.

Thomas also achieved a big-time PR at the RITCA Invite with his win in the shot. The Rogers’ junior unleashed the metal ball a distance of 51-9. His throw, which ranks seventh in the country, was three feet head of Pilgrim’s Brandon Wolffenden.
