With the month of April coming to a close, the competitive portion of the outdoor track & field season is starting to heat up. On Saturday, the first state qualifier of the spring will be held with the annual Classical Classic at Conley Stadium. In Philadelphia, some of our athletes and teams will be venturing out to historic Franklin Field for the prestigious Penn Relays Carnival.
This past weekend, we had trio of out-of-state competitions where our athletes shined – the BSR Mid Distance Classic, the CT Distance Festival and the New York Relays. For this week’s HOKA Female Athlete of the Week, we’d like to recognize Chariho’s Erin von Housen for this week’s honor. The Charger junior, one of our state’s top distance runners, made her first attempt at the steeplechase a successful one at the NY Relays. Von Housen dominated the 2K steeplechase, winning by nearly 100m with a time of 7:10.93. Her effort not only ranks No. 4 in the country but qualifies her for a spot at the New Balance Nationals in mid June.
