With the month of April coming to a close, the competitive portion of the outdoor track & field season is starting to heat up. On Saturday, the first state qualifier of the spring will be held with the annual Classical Classic at Conley Stadium. In Philadelphia, some of our schools will be venturing out to historic Franklin Field for the prestigious Penn Relays Carnival.

This past weekend, we had trio of out-of-state competitions where our athletes shined. For this week’s HOKA Male Athlete of the Week, we’d like to congratulate Saint Raphael Academy’s Devan Kipyego. The SRA senior was a victor in two different states. Kipyego earned gold for the 5,000-meter run at the CT Distance Festival on Friday night. The Iowa-State bound runner clocked a winning time of 14 minutes, 49.35 seconds, an effort that ranks No. 13 in the country. The following day, Kipyego traveled to Icahn Stadium on Randall Island in Manhattan for the New York Relays. It was there that the Saints standout came on top again by breaking the tape in the 2K steeplechase where he was timed in a nation No. 4 of 6:03.1
