HOKA Female Athlete Of The Week: Ailani Sutherland, Cranston West

The first state qualifier proved to be a big success with Saturday’s Classical Classic giving us a good glimpse of what to possibly expect at the State Meet next month. With so many great performance turned in by our track & field athletes, we had a number of worthy contenders for this week’s HOKA Female Athlete of the Week.

After much thought, we’d like to congratulate Cranston West’s Ailani Sutherland for this week’s honor. The defending state 100-meter and 200m champion made a statement at Conley Stadium by winning both her specialities in impressive fashion. Sutherland defeated indoor rival Lisa Raye of West Warwick in the 100m dash with a PR of 12.14 seconds, four hundredths of a second ahead of the Wizards’ freshmen. The CW junior came back on wn the 200m with a fast, early-season time of 25.83. Sutherland also was the anchor for the Falcons’ triumphant 4x100m squad that was timed in 49.54.
