It was a big day for several of our Ocean State athletes at the New England Championships this past Saturday, most who were prepping for the upcoming national meets that are on agenda over the weekend.
For this week’s male recipient of the HOKA Athlete of the Week, we nominate one of our winners from the regional competition in Bangor, Me., Middletown’s Jason Hayes. The Islanders senior continued his winning ways in the discus with an all-time best of 175 feet, 11 inches. For the recent state champion, it was his first effort over the 170-foot mark and ranks No. 4 all-time in the history of the state.
