The competition began for the cross-country season this past Saturday with the Injury Fund X-C Carnival. With the first meet in the books, it also marks the beginning of our HOKA Athlete of the Week feature where we recognize the top performances of each week for boys and girls.
For the girls, we’d like to recognize Chariho Regional’s Erin von Housen our first female recipient of the 2023-24 season. At the Injury Fund Carnival this past weekend, von Housen was the only runner to break 19 minutes on the five-kilometer course at Deerfield Park. In a match-up with Rory Sullivan of St. Raphael Academy, a three-time, first-team, all-stater, the Charger senior was able to win comfortably over her rival. Von Housen crossed the line with a triumphant 18:57.63 in the Caswell Race, more than 30 seconds ahead of Sullivan.
Congratulations, Erin!
