Based on what transpired at this past weekend’s RIIL Class Championships, it appears most of our top athletes and teams are peaking at just the right time for Saturday’s State Meet. For our latest HOKA Athletes of the Week, our male and female recipients were the fastest of them all on Ponaganset’s Covered-Bridge Trails – St. Raphael Academy’s Rory Sullivan and Cumberland’s Sam Henderson.
It what turned into a mostly solo effort, the Saints’ Sullivan came just two seconds from the meet record in the Class C race with a winning time and PR of 18 minutes, 30.47 seconds. Her victory at the class meet solidified her status as one of the favorites for the individual title at this weekend’s states.
The Clippers’ Henderson continued his strong season by capturing the Class A title. The talented junior admitted it wasn’t an all-out effort with the more-important State Meet on the horizon. Nonetheless, he still went sub-16 with a triumphant 15:53.93.
