There was no one who could touch the Eagles on Saturday.
Just like in 2025, Barrington High completed a clean sweep at the Class B Championships. The boys captured their fifth straight crown, while the girls repeated as champions with their second consecutive title.
The two front-runners for the boys’ team title at the State Meet in two weeks are La Salle and Bishop Hendricken. But Barrington has proved all season that it belongs in that conversation, and it reinforced that point again this past weekend at Portsmouth High’s athletic complex.
Barrington showcased its depth with top-tier performances across several events in a 165-109 victory over Portsmouth.
Joe Adams once again was a major contributor in the field events for Barrington, scoring 28 points. Adams took over the state’s top spot in the discus by defeating previous leader Ryan Evans of East Greenwich with a toss of 166 feet, edging Evans’ throw of 161-9. Adams also won the shot put at 51-9 and finished second to Evans in the hammer with a throw of 201-2. The East Greenwich senior captured the event with a heave of 221-10.
A much-anticipated 400-meter showdown between Barrington’s Henry Stockwell and Lincoln’s Finley Stebenne lived up to the hype Saturday. Stockwell got the better of his rival with a winning time of 50.64, just 0.09 seconds ahead of the Lions junior. Lincoln’s Reed Fortier placed third in 51.37.
The Eagles also captured the 4×800-meter relay in 8:26.49 and the 4×400 in 3:29.45. Barrington added a third-place finish in the 4×100 at 44.48, a race in which the top three teams were separated by less than a half-second. Chariho won in 44.01, while Portsmouth finished second at 44.46.
Portsmouth’s Sean Gray was an impressive double-winner in the distance events. Gray raced to a dominant four-second victory in the 1,500m where he was timed in 4:02.73. He finished off his day in a classic 3K that produced the state’s top three times this season. The Virginia-bound senior edged Barrington’s Brooks Mello with a time of 8:30.49. Mello secured second with a best of 8:30.58. Taking third was Portsmouth’s Patrick Orbon at 8:33.74, a best by 11 seconds.
South Kingstown’s Kai Sorlien scored 30 points with wins in the 110m hurdles (15.11), long jump (20-6.75) and the javelin (188-9). His performance in javelin improved his PR and state-leader by two feet.

On the girls’ side, Barrington collected five victories in a decisive 152-75 win over Ponaganset. The Eagles captured first-place finishes in the 4x800m (10:22.27) and 4x100m (50.19) relays. Kate Pearse added 10 points with a victory in the 400m (59.37), while teammate Evelyn LeFort matched that effort by winning the 3K in 10:48.37.
The meet was highlighted by another state record from Ponaganset’s Amber Shaw in the pole vault. The Chieftains senior cleared a personal-best 12-3, improving on the previous mark she set at last month’s Classical Classic by nearly two inches.
Not surprisingly, Mount Hope’s Thea Jackson made multiple trips to the top of the podium. The Huskies senior earned four victories, winning the 100m (12.44), 200m (25.83), long jump (17-6.25) and high jump (5-1).
In the 1,500m, Mount Hope’s Jessica Deal edged a tightly contested race in 4:48.34. Portsmouth freshman Meg Adams followed closely in 4:48.88, while Barrington ninth-grader Cary Gill placed third in 4:49.03.
Chariho freshman Meridan Alge also impressed, running the state’s No. 2 time in the 800m with a winning 2:16.26.
