We expect our final two teams on the girls’ side to be close at this year’s State Meet, really close. We’re putting La Salle at the No. 2 position, but it certainly could be different come early November.
The Rams have five returning from a 2024 squad that finished third at championship meet. La Salle’s top returnees are sophomore Stella Pelagio, senior Olivia Wahlberg and junior Alyssa Parenteau. Pelagio was the team’s front-runner at the State Meet, placing 13th overall in a PR of 19:16.83. Wahlberg (18th, 19:30.46) and Parenteau (21st, 19:31.92) also went under 20 minutes. Based on how they all ran during the track season, it wouldn’t surprise us to see all three going sub-19 this fall, or at least come close. This is a trio that right away puts the Rams in the mix to win its first state crown since 2020 and tenth overall in school history.
Parenteau’s State Meet performance was somewhat deceptive, as she had been limited by injury and raced only once prior to states – a victory at the season-opening Injury Fund Carnival. The injury is now in the rearview mirror and Parenteau is healthy and ready to contend for a top position this season. An indication of that was her most recent track season, which was highlighted by an all-time best of 4:43.38 from a loaded 1,500-meter race at the outdoor state meet.
Other top runners for La Salle include junior teammates Carolina Terlato and Sabrina Ghamrawi and the sophomore duo of Gemma Kent and Kenya Depina, just to name a few. Terlato and Ghamrawi were low 20-minute 5K runners, while Kent and Depina were in the low-to-mid 21-minute range. This gives La Salle some solid depth and that’s not even counting some potential new talent coming from their incoming freshmen class.
For now, La Salle sits at No. 2, but with their depth and front-running talent, don’t be surprised if the Rams are battling for the top spot — and a state title — by November.
