The division championships occupied this past weekend where , per usual, a number of our athletes shined their brightest, some with hopes of bringing prosperity to their respective school’s quest for winning a team title, others with a focus on qualifying or increasing their seed for next month’s State Meet. Once again, it was not easy picking our HOKA Athlete of the Week for boys or girls.
For this week’s male recipient, we’d like to congratulate East Greenwich’s Nick Martin for this week’s honor. The Avenger senior won the 1,500-meter run and the 800m at this past Saturday’s Class B Championships, both times with PR performances. In the 1,500m, Martin became our second runner under four minutes, achieving the milestone for the first time with a winning time of 3:57.84. The URI-bound runner came back shortly after and claimed the 800m crown in 1:57.82, a time that also ranks No. 2 in the state.
